About the Taliesin Foundation

We are a not-for-profit education initiative, dedicated to making technology and cyber security careers genuinely accessible to young people who may not be best positioned to otherwise access.

Our Story

Helping Young People Discover What's Possible in Technology

The Taliesin Foundation was established with a simple belief: every young person should have access to clear, practical information about the opportunities available to them. Through conversations with schools, community groups and industry professionals, we saw that many young people were making important decisions about their future without ever having the chance to explore what a career in technology actually looks like.

In many communities, technology and cyber security roles are less visible. Young people may not have family members, neighbours or local contacts working in the industry, making it difficult to ask questions, understand different career paths, or see how their interests and abilities could translate into real-world opportunities. The result is not a lack of potential, but a lack of access to knowledge and first-hand insight.

Our purpose is to bridge that gap. We provide free workshops, demonstrations, career talks and hands-on activities that help young people explore the technology sector in a practical and accessible way. From software development and cyber security to cloud computing, data, networking and emerging technologies, we aim to demystify the industry and explain the many routes into it.

We are not here to tell young people what they should do. We are here to help them make informed decisions. By connecting learners with professionals, sharing real experiences, and opening the door to industries they may not otherwise encounter, we give young people the information they need to decide whether a future in technology is right for them.

The name Taliesin reflects a tradition of learning, knowledge and the sharing of wisdom between generations. That spirit sits at the heart of everything we do: bringing together communities, educators and industry to ensure that knowledge is accessible, practical and available to everyone who wants to learn.

Becoming a Charitable Incorporated Organisation

The Taliesin Foundation is being established as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) — a structure created specifically for charities in England and Wales, regulated by the Charity Commission. A CIO gives us a single legal identity, limited liability for our trustees, and a clear duty to act only for public benefit.

As we complete formation, we are committed to operating transparently and to the standards expected of a registered charity, including a written constitution, a board of trustees, proper financial controls, and annual reporting.

Public benefit through education and advancement

  • To advance the education of young people — particularly those from lower socio-economic backgrounds and underrepresented communities — in information technology and cyber security.
  • To relieve barriers to progression by improving access to information, practical skills development, mentorship, and work-relevant experience.
  • To promote social mobility by supporting pathways into employment, apprenticeships, and further and higher education in the technology sector.
